Illusione OneOff

As an Italian cigar lounge owner, restaurant owner, and airline CEO, Andrea Molinari desired his own cigar line to top his grand list of accomplishments. For this, he contracted the world-renowned Plasencia family to make the original #OneOff. With limited releases, a high price tag, and the simplistic ‘Peace’ logo, that was also used on his planes, Molinari created a cigar that was heavily sought after. The cigar line ownership changed hands several times since its launch in ’04 but it finally landed with Dion Giolito of @illusione_cigars . It’s a Nicaraguan puro made up entirely of Aganorsa tobacco

Initial Light and First 3rd⠀⠀⠀⠀

The cigar is a very firm Robusto that proudly displays its natural leaf-patterned veins and seam. The amount of flavor at the start of the cigar is eye-popping. In combination with the cedar and toasty aroma, you get a rich flavor of white pepper, black pepper, and cedar with a mineral finish. This profile lasts for about 3/4 of the first portion but then lightens before moving into the second 3rd. There’s less spice, and the smoke becomes creamy with sweet tobacco and a touch of nuttiness (almond) on the palate.

Second 3rd⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Where did the spice go?!? The cigar has a subdued profile now. It’s a small transition pulling out more of the toasted oaks/bread, more in-depth wood notes, and saltiness. I joke, but the spice is still there in the background. The OneOff settles in but hasn’t laid off on its strength. The first half of the cigar was your standard medium smoke, but the latter half has crept closer to medium-full body. Great retrohale that is sweet and has some heat as well.

Final 3rd⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Tasty….very tasty on this last portion. It is very well balanced, giving you warm baking spices, light leather, toast, and wood. I would say it’s in the realm of rye bread. With this flavor profile, the cigar would be great with a Double IPA or Chimay Ale. The ventilation is good, not too much smoke, and it just needed a small burn correction, and two relights during the hour and fifteen-minute smoke.
