Cigar City Club

“Ok….we see the cigars but where are the bars, guys?”. Well, we gladly invite you to join us as we explore Atlanta’s cigar lounges and cigar-friendly restaurants. First up is Cigar City Club (CCC).It has established itself as one of Atlanta’s premium places to enjoy your cigar. I’ve personally enjoyed and written several cigar reviews at Cigar City.

Internal and External aesthetics

Reminiscent of lounges in the ’40s, CCC is filled with echoes of time once before. With its dark wood wainscoting along the walls, oversized leather chairs, daily musical entertainment, and tasty food options, CCC looks to be Atlanta’s old school dinner club. Upon entering, the lower level has two sections, one for larger parties to your left and members only to your right. Take a few more steps up and you have a large general area with a center bar encircled by more oversized chairs, member lockers, and the humidor at the rear. Out front, there’s a covered patio that is perfect from summer to late fall. Since some of the fixtures and furniture have been there since opening, it is time for a few pieces to be replaced to renew the vibe.Cigar City has the best ventilation. It does a fantastic job at handling a large number of smokers… even on their busiest nights. There are several exhaust vents running the length of the club. This prevents a cloud of grey smoke accumulating and keeps the club from looking like a dive bar.

Humidor and Cigar Selection

With a large glass window emboldened with the CCC logo, you can see that they have a good selection. Being one of the larger walk-in humidors in Atlanta, Cigar City does a good job at offering cigars that will satisfy most cigar smoker’s palate (when fully stocked). Their inventory is mostly your larger more known brands….but light on boutique sticks.

Personnel/Wait Staff

The wait staff is a handful of beautiful, smiling faces that make you feel comfortable when you come in but in recent times, there has been quite a bit of turnover. This results in staff that may not be familiar with the menu and drink options…and definitely not the cigars. Since the staff commonly has new faces, they can easily get into the weeds on the more crowded nights. The bartenders are moderate at making drinks but could be more proficient in making some of your more classic, ‘prohibition’ style cocktails (I often order whiskey on an ice ball because of the manhattans fall short). If they can retain staff for an extended period of time, the service could be on the level of the aesthetics.

Overall

Over the years, there have been highs and lows…and that’s expected with any business…but it seems that CCC is back on the come up. It was almost 3 years ago when I was having a bad day and needed to decompress with a drink and cigar….but since then, I’ve grown fond of CCC and have established quite a few friendships (more like a brotherhood) with some of the regular clientele. I know the owners take pride in what they’ve built and hope they remain focused as to who/what they want their brand to be. My only true critique is to stay focused on consistency. I give Cigar City Club 4 out of 5 cigars!
