Possibly not known to some, @plasenciacigars has been producing premium cigars for some of the most popular brands in the industry such as Rocky Patel, 5 Vegas, and others. Plascencia’s decision to venture out with its own product just makes sense. Their release of the #Cosecha146 was created to commemorate the Plasencia family’s first-ever tobacco harvest. Perfectly aged, the 146 is made of Honduran Colorado Maduro wrapper, Nicaraguan binder, and a mixture of both for its filler. Plascencia reserved its best harvest (or Cosecha) for this release and it truly is a masterpiece.
The very luxuriously banded cigar has a silky marbled brown coat that resembles plush crushed leather with small veins and a soft texture. With a clip to the head of the cigar, a fire to the foot, and taking a few pulls, the #146 promptly gives a load of dry nut (walnut) and pepper. This typical cigar profile is joined by a very non-typical cardamom spice that delivers a tingling bite. In less than 15 minutes, the cigar’s cardamom bite disappears and a flavorful cocoa comes in as we go into the second portion.
What I like the most with the 146 is the smoothness and how this cigar moves from a bold, spicy smoke to medium bitter-sweet chocolate. The chocolate combines amazingly with the walnut and pepper. It’s a tasty trifecta that reminds me of Mexican Abuelita hot chocolate with chili powder. The inhale is velvet in texture and full of flavor. As I pass the halfway point on the cigar, the exhale leaves a bit of grit on my tongue… but I feel another transition coming on as I approach the final 3rd.
And as soon as I detected a change, we do away with the sweet, smooth chocolates/cocoas and trade those out for earthiness and leather. The pepper is still there but this is a totally different smoke than it was in the beginning. It’s amazing just how much complexity is squeezed into this fairly small cigar. The 146 is a quick smoke but it has the layers in flavor that even most 60-gauge cigars don’t have. I would definitely recommend the Plascencia 146. It’s stylish and complex, without taking up your entire evening.
