La Rosa De Sandiego Habano Cigar.

The @larosadesandiego brand is one that is stuck in the past…and that’s a good thing! Its old school Cuban roots are evident in every aspect of the cigar. The name itself is a call to the San Diego de Los Baños area on the western boarder of the island. The Habano version of their cigars are made up of Nicaraguan and Pennsylvanian filler. Its binder and wrapper are both Ecuadorian.

Initial Light and First 3rd

The La Rosa cigar has a very antiqued look to it. It is visible on its band, which has ‘old school’ artistry of a young damsel, and on its rustic outer wrapper. It is a deep leathery brown leaf textured with veins and a quite visible seam. The above-average ventilation brings in a lot of smoke…I mean, you get a mouthful. The flavors slowly develop into coffee grounds, earth, and a heaping of black pepper. There’s impressive aromatics on this cigar. It’s just as good as the flavor but its leather and herbs.

Second 3rd

I have an excellent burn that is even around the entire circumference. The pepper continues from the 1st third, and a sweeter spice joins the party. It reminds me of a warm slice of spice cake with a cup of black coffee. It’s a nice subtle sweetness that combats the spice. The retro is where you catch the uniqueness of the flavors. The herbal scent in the aroma mixes with the sweetness and coffee.

Final 3rd

This cigar has very quaint transitions. It goes from a strong peppery profile to a darker earthy sweetness. The earthy notes from earlier are now more towards nuttiness. Throughout this smoking experience, La Rosa’s body has been on the far end of medium while the strength has gone from middle of the road Medium to now more Medium to Full. This cigar will pair well with an espresso or other variations of strong coffee. It would also go well with a deep red wine that has notes of chocolate and dark cherries.
