Plasencia Reserva Original

We’ve touched on the greatness of the @plasenciacigars family and their unbelievable cigars. The bar is set high as we review their #ReservaOriginal. This cigar has been around for some time and has garnered some pretty impressive ratings. It could be because it’s one of the first cigars to be certified as 100% organic tobacco or the additional fermenting and aging this cigar goes through. Whatever the reason, read about the Reserva Original below and let us know if you would like to light one up as well.

Initial Light and First 3rd

The cappuccino colored wrapper is smooth to the touch with minimal veins and almost no visible seam. The eye-catcher here is the stalwart pyramid figurado with its perceivable triple cap, displaying its quality construction. The pre-lit aroma is slightly sweet backed with cookie and wood notes. I took a tiny straight cut from the tip of the pyramid to test the ventilation, and it seemed to be pulling just fine. Once lit, the flavor is creamy cashew and hot cocoa sweetness. This portion finishes with a touch of baking spice and wood.

Second 3rd

A very comfortable transition occurs that brings the wood and baking spices to the front. This is not to replace the sweeter notes but to blend with them. Just to point back to the construction quality, the burn is razor-sharp, and it continued to burn even after leaving it while I ran my mouth with the manager at @themillkitchenandbar here in Roswell at their Guys Night Out event. The thing I like here is how the Plascencia sneaks in a peppery spice that trails after the allspice notes. We’re talking all types of seasoning. Great touch.

Final 3rd

The flavors stampede forward into the last portion. To add complexity to the experience, we get a lasting dark syrupy sweetness. This wasn’t quite present in the second 3rd but is a nice maturing of the flavor. The retrohale also intensifies with touches of black pepper. All in all, this was a balanced, medium-bodied cigar packed with a depth of flavor that I was not expecting but welcomed nonetheless. Pair this with a dark roast coffee for a fantastic midday/late afternoon smoke.
