Joya Silver

Some say that if it’s not broken then don’t try to fix it. There’s nothing broken here at @joyacigars , they are just committed to continuous innovation and satisfying every cigar pallet out there. The company has been rolling masterful cigars for over 50 years and to commemorate the achievement, Joya began to phase rollout new blends. Starting with the Cinco Decadas, then the Joya Red, the Joya Black, and now the #JoyaSilver (2018). The silver is constructed with Nicaraguan filler, a San Andres Mexican binder, and Ecuadorian Oscuro wrapper. This is a fantastic union between 3 distinctly different regions full of cigar goodness.

Initial Light and First 3rd

There’s something sophisticated about a nice box pressed cigar. The clean lines on the Joya Silver go perfectly with the white quilted label that’s bordered by silver lines. Matter of fact, even the leathery brown wrapper has a shine to it. There’s a light chocolate scent on the foot of the cigar before lighting it up. The ventilation was more than I expected and somewhat too much. I may have kept the humidor too high because the body seems to be very “squishy”. Thankfully, this doesn’t impact the flavor. Once you get it going well, there is a nice flavor of cocoa, clove, and cashew nut.

Second 3rd

The flavor is increasing from the initial subtle delivery of the cigar’s notes but is still medium bodied. It’s much easier to pick up the flavor; so much so that I’m noticing the earlier cocoa transform into a sweeter chocolate flavor. Continuing through the cigar, I notice a faint zest in the smoke. Like orange peel to chocolate, the pallet opens up with the introduction of this new note. The cashew that I mentioned earlier makes the smoke very creamy while adding a pinch of earthiness. I ran into an issue keeping the cigar lit…this is probably due to the loose packing.

Final 3rd

The chocolate, zest and cashew nut make a great partnership of flavors. There’s not a lot of complexity here….which makes it such a mild smoke. It’s beautifully delicate while still giving you a luxury flavor. This is not a punchy medium bodied smoke so the Joya Silver can be enjoyed pretty much any time of day.
